The Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP) – Ministry of Public Health celebrated the successful run of its national system of the National Continuing Medical Education (CME) / Continuing Professional Development (CPD) framework, program and accreditation system (for the 2nd year) in a series of events starting from April 22nd. The QCHP held activities for healthcare practitioners, CPD providers, and surveyors that spanned over the course of four days and were organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Public Health.
Since its inception and until March 2018, QCHP has effectively processed 32 provider accreditation requests (of which 28 were successful) and accredited 1819 CPD activities which counted for 12,133 credit hours and 83,109.7 educational hours. This provided more than 400,000+ educational opportunities and 2,000,000+ granted credits for the healthcare practitioners in the state of Qatar which helped them to retain a high rate of compliance (averaged 88.65%) with the National CME/CPD Program requirements.
The celebratory events began on Sunday, April 22nd with an accredited seminar for healthcare practitioners during which the practitioners were oriented about different types & formats of CPD activities recognized by the National CME/CPD framework. The seminar also highlighted the requirements for participation in the National CME/CPD Program and how to record and report such participation using the healthcare practitioners' CPD e-portfolio.
The following two days (April 23rd-24th) were dedicated to the "Leadership skills for CPD Professionals" workshop which was facilitated by Dr. Graham McMahon, the President and CEO of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), and Dr. Chitra Subramaniam, the Chief Learning Officer at AO North America, USA. The workshop focused on building the capacity and providing hands-on training on the leadership skills needed for the staff and faculty running the CPD units of QCHP-accredited CPD providers and was very well-perceived by more than 60 participants.
The last event "Annual Accredited CPD Providers' Retreat" gathered the thirteen QCHP-AD accredited providers who were given the opportunity to present their achievements, the challenges they faced and their future plans to contribute to the success of the National CME/CPD Program and Accreditation system. The highlight of the summit was the launch of "Qatar's Healthcare CPD Community" which was introduced by Dr. Samar AboulSoud, A/CEO of QCHP. The CPD community is one of the latest achievements in QCHP's arsenal. Its concept is to bring together CPD professionals so they can converse, engage and collaborate for the development of Qatar's healthcare community.
